Urgent liver transplant is performed on patients with acute liver failure and need urgent surgery to survive.
The family of the patient is given the option of both living donor liver transplant and deceased donor liver transplant, if a living donor is present, they are to get registered and undergo urgent through examination of both mental strength and physical health in order to determine whether they are eligible for the transplant. Once the living donor has been approved by the transplant team the procedure may begin and surgery is possible within 24 hours of diagnosis.
If a living donor is not available, the patient is added to the national waiting list for an urgent deceased donor liver transplant. Once a match is found, the healthy organ will be sent on an urgent basis and the procedure will begin along with briefing of the patient’s family by the team.
